The Fellblade Knights
For more than four centuries, the Fellblade have stood as the shield of Eralon. They are more than mounted knights. They are an ancient brotherhood devoted to The One, forged through unwavering discipline, sacrifice, and faith. Wherever darkness threatens the realm, the Fellblade answer. They patrol lonely roads, defend isolated villages, stand watch over mountain passes, and, when war comes, become the Sword of the Sovereign.
The Order traces its origins to General Ranod Leondan, one of Eralon's greatest military commanders. His teachings on honor, leadership, and warfare continue to shape every generation of knights. His legendary blacksteel sword gave the Order its name, while his writings, preserved within Leondan's Codex, remain required study for every acolyte who enters Hammerfall.
Hammerfall
High upon the cliffs overlooking the western sea stands Hammerfall, the ancient fortress monastery where the Fellblade are forged.
Each year, boys around the age of seven arrive at its gates. Some come from loving families seeking honor. Others are orphans, street children, or boys rescued from lives of hardship. Whatever their past, all begin equally.
Hammerfall does not merely teach boys to fight. It reshapes them.
Their days begin before dawn and end long after sunset. They study history, mathematics, languages, tactics, law, religion, horsemanship, medicine, and leadership. Every lesson has purpose. Every mistake carries consequence. In the training yards they learn the sword, shield, spear, lance, wrestling, archery, and mounted combat. They are pushed until exhaustion, then expected to continue. Strength is earned, but discipline is demanded.
Just as importantly, they are taught humility. Masters expect every acolyte to clean stables, haul water, prepare meals, repair equipment, and serve those less fortunate than themselves. The greatest warrior is first expected to become the greatest servant.
Only a small portion of those who begin their training will ultimately become Fellblade Knights. The path is unforgiving, and excellence is the minimum standard.
The Warhorses
No symbol of the Order is more recognizable than the Thalruni warhorse. Their name has elvish origins loosely translated as "untrainable".
Bred over countless generations, these horses are massive, fearless, and notoriously ill-tempered. They tolerate few people beyond their handlers and possess an intelligence uncommon among ordinary horses. Fiercely loyal and utterly relentless in battle, they become as feared as the knights who ride them.
From childhood, each acolyte is entrusted with raising a single colt. They feed it, groom it, train it, and grow alongside it for years before either is ready for what comes next.
The Bonding.
Few outside the Order understand what truly occurs during the sacred ritual, and fewer still have witnessed it. What is known is that horse and rider emerge forever changed.
They become more than partners.
They become one purpose shared by two minds.
Among the Fellblade, a single saying captures this truth.
"The Horse and Rider are one. Where one goes, the other follows. The Horse and Rider are one."
From that day forward, each can sense the thoughts and emotions of the other with remarkable clarity. Their movements become instinctive. In battle they fight with a unity impossible for ordinary cavalry to match.
It is a bond that lasts until death.
The Runemaidens
Standing beside the Fellblade are their oldest allies, the Runemaidens.
Chosen in childhood and educated within their own secluded academy, Runemaidens devote their lives to mastering the ancient language of runes. Unlike traditional spellcasters, they require no spoken incantations or material components. Instead, they weave glowing symbols through the air or upon objects, each rune releasing carefully controlled magical power.
Rune magic demands extraordinary precision. A single mistake can have dangerous and unpredictable consequences. Years of relentless study and discipline are required before a Runemaiden is considered worthy of serving alongside the Fellblade.
Although capable of formidable offensive magic, Runemaidens are renowned for their unmatched healing, protective enchantments, and battlefield support. Their runes strengthen armor, sharpen blades, mend wounds, and shield both knight and horse from harm.
Their numbers have always been few.
Because of this, every Fellblade trains as though no Runemaiden will be there when the battle begins. Their aid is treasured, never expected. Together, however, the two Orders become something far greater than either could achieve alone.
Faith and Purpose
Every aspect of a Fellblade's life is rooted in devotion to The One.
Faith is not reserved for temples or ceremonies. It is woven into every lesson, every patrol, every act of service, and every battle fought in defense of the innocent. A Fellblade does not seek glory. He seeks duty. He does not fight because he hates what stands before him. He fights because he loves what stands behind him.
From frightened children to legendary warriors, every Fellblade is shaped by the same relentless process.
Steel tempers the body.
Discipline tempers the mind.
Faith tempers the soul.
Only when all three become one does Hammerfall consider its work complete.
